Gilas Pilipinas secured a spot in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup men's tournament main draw after sweeping Qualifying Draw A on Friday in Singapore.
The Philippines opened its campaign with a 21-16 victory over Maldives, powered by Sean Alter’s 11-point performance.
They followed it up with a hard-fought 17-15 win against Thailand, holding off the 3x3 SEA Games champions despite a late-game rally.
Ralph Cu led the balanced scoring effort with six points, while Chris Koon and Jerrick Ahanmisi added four and five points, respectively. Alter chipped in two points in the second game.
The Philippines is now grouped with Mongolia and Chinese Taipei in the men’s main draw, with games set to begin on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the women’s team, composed of Kacey Dela Rosa, Mika Cacho, Cheska Apag, and Afril Bernardino, will also begin its main draw campaign on Saturday. They are grouped with Tonga and Australia.
