PBA: Kevin Alas, Robert Bolick spark late NLEX breakaway vs. Phoenix

Kevin Alas and Robert Bolick caught fire late to ignite a fourth-quarter explosion as NLEX beat Phoenix, 120-102, in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner's Cup on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Alas dropped 16 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, including a pivotal five-point play that put the game away, while Bolick posted a double-double effort of 22 markers and 14 assists laced with five rebounds and two steals as the Road Warriors improved to 4-1.

Import Cady Lalanne was also huge after contributing 29 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks to help NLEX send Phoenix to a 3-2 card.

NLEX turned a slim 79-72 lead to end the third period to a 15-point separation after Alas completed a five-point play chance off a foul from Francis Escandor, 94-79.

Another Alas three-pointer made it a 99-86 cushion before Bolick and Anthony Semerad buried a triple each to stretch their lead to 105-88 with 4:02 left in the fourth.

Bolick and Lalanne each completed a three-point play to create a 115-94 lead before Xyrus Torres sealed it from downtown with a long bomb of his own as NLEX claimed solo second spot in the team standings.

"It shows naman in the game that they shared the ball, their defense is still average, but they shared the ball more and they know who to go to. That's just through practice, where nagbibigayan sila sa isa't-isa," NLEX head coach Jong Uichico said

"Kung sino 'yung mainit, siya 'yung bibigyan ng bola."

Ricco Rivero led Phoenix with 20 points and five rebounds while Jason Perkins chipped in 18 markers and seven boards.
