PBA: TNT eyes Marquese Chriss, Darius Days as replacements for injured Bol Bol

Right after Bol Bol exited Friday’s game due to a suspected partial Achilles tendon tear, TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa immediately began contacting possible replacements for the 7-foot-3 import.

Lastimosa said TNT is currently in talks with the agents of two players who could fly to Manila as soon as possible to suit up for the remainder of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.

“The guy we're looking at, if he's available, is Marquese Chriss. So, he's 6-foot-9. He just came from China. He’s the first guy we’re looking at,” Lastimosa said.

The TNT manager added that another option is standby import Darius Days, who is currently in the United States.

Lastimosa said the team’s immediate choice will depend on who becomes available the soonest.

“But definitely, if we need to win the championship… I think we can survive this semifinals with Days. But if we go to the finals, I don't think we'll be able to win with him,” Lastimosa said.

“I’m not saying that he lacks the ability, but Chriss is a more imposing import.”

Lastimosa also shared that Bol was brought to the hospital for an MRI to further assess the extent of the injury.

TNT head coach Chot Reyes, meanwhile, said the team simply has to deal with the injuries and health issues affecting the squad as the conference nears its conclusion.

Aside from Bol, Jayson Castro also missed Game 2 of the semifinal series due to a twisted knee and remains a game-time decision. Henry Galinato, meanwhile, was advised to stay home after developing a fever.

“That's basketball. That's sports. That's part of the game. Injuries are part of the game, and there's nothing we can do about that except to do our best just to cope with it,” Reyes said.

TNT fell to Meralco, 87-76, as the semis series was evened to one win apiece.
