PBA: Guiao, Chua involved in verbal spat after Rain or Shine vs Barangay Ginebra game

Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao and Barangay Ginebra team governor Alfrancis Chua were involved in a verbal spat at center court after the Elasto Painters defeated the Gin Kings in Game 4 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.

According to Guiao, Chua shouted an expletive at him after he confronted the Barangay Ginebra official about talking to the referees.

“Actually, the whole story is tungkol sa referees. Nung nagkamali sa amin, may na-suspend, I think a couple of games ago. ‘Yung referee naman, pag sa kanila nagkakamali, walang nasu-suspend,” Guiao said after Rain or Shine’s 97-85 victory.

“I feel, as a governor, it’s not his job to keep talking to the referees and, in that way, intimidate them.”

Guiao said complaints regarding officiating should come from coaches or players, not team governors. He cited Rain or Shine governor Mert Mondragon as an example.

In addition, Guiao claimed Chua hurled an expletive at him from afar.

“Tapos from afar, tinawag niya akong u—. ‘Yun lang naman ang sinabi ko, so nagkasagutan kami. I was just asking him to stop talking to the referees and from afar, sumigaw siya,” he said.

“Hindi ko naman siya minura. Sabi ko lang, huwag mo kausapin ang referees.”

Chua, meanwhile, said Guiao should focus on coaching his own team.

“‘Yung team niya, hindi ko pinapakialaman. Pakialaman niya ‘yung team niya, huwag niya pakialaman team namin,” Chua said.

“Governors, pinapakialaman. Magtrabaho na lang siya, mag-coach na lang siya.”

The Barangay Ginebra-Rain or Shine semifinal series is now tied at 2-2.
