Gilas Pilipinas Boys rout Vietnam, 121-28, in FIBA U18 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers opener
The Gilas Pilipinas Boys opened their campaign in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers in dominant fashion, crushing Vietnam, 121-28, on Wednesday.
The Philippines wasted no time flexing its talent, racing to a 39-11 lead at the end of the first quarter before holding Vietnam to just four points in the second period to build a commanding 68-15 advantage at halftime.
The Gilas Boys tightened the screws even further in the third quarter, shutting out Vietnam while scoring 25 points to take a 93-15 lead entering the final frame.
With the outcome already virtually decided, the Philippines maintained control in the fourth quarter, outscoring Vietnam, 28-13, to complete the 93-point rout.
Ethan Aguas led the balanced attack with 19 points, six rebounds, and one assist, while Joaquin Tovera added 16 points. Hans Patagoc chipped in 14 points, while Xavier Chio finished with 12.
Patrick Pasinos, Louis Razon, and Prince Cariño contributed 11 points apiece. JB Cagurungan scored eight points, Kyle Sardon added seven, Chog Moral had five, and Bruce Tubongbanua finished with three points.
For Vietnam, Tuan Hung Pham recorded 10 points and seven rebounds, while Viet Minh Quang Vu scored five points. Le Cao Nguyen Nguyen and Minh Anh Nguyen added four points each, while Cong Minh Hoang and Tien Minh Pham contributed three and two points, respectively.
The Gilas Boys will return to action on Thursday against Singapore.
