Rene Baterbonia's friend recalls late player's final birthday celebration

Just last May 8, Rene Baterbonia celebrated his 18th birthday with friends.

Little did they know it would be his last, as the young player died last Monday during Ateneo de Manila University’s team-building activity.

Rene’s friend, Gerald, shared with GMA News how they celebrated the late player’s birthday.

“Late na siya nakaabot. Masaya po. Nakita niya kami, marami, may mga bisita,” he said in JP Soriano’s report on 24 Oras Weekend.

“Hindi pa rin [ako] makapaniwala. Sayang talaga, mabait na bata.”

Meanwhile, members of the public continued to visit Ateneo de Davao University for the public viewing of Baterbonia’s wake.
