Ateneo's Divine Adili laid to rest in Nigeria

Ateneo de Manila University foreign student-athlete Divine Adili was laid to rest in Umueri, Nigeria on Friday following his death in a drowning incident nearly three weeks ago in Dipaculao, Aurora.

Adili, 21, was buried following a funeral convoy attended to by his family and loved ones a day after the repatriation of his remains was completed on Thursday.

"Divine is home. His body arrived [in] his hometown Umueri in Anambra state today, but this is not the homecoming we prayed for," Adili's aunt, Nwozor-Mabia Ogonna Grace, said in a Facebook post.

"We sent him to the Philippines with blessings, with dreams, Today, he returned to us in casket."

Adili and teammate Rene Baterbonia both died during the Blue Eagles' fatal team-building activity at a private resort in the province.

Since then, government agencies and the Ateneo have launched probes.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) recommended filing complaints for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 11053, or the Anti-Hazing Act, against 11 individuals, including head coach Tab Baldwin.

The Department of Justice, meanwhile, said it has received the CIDG's proposal.

Ateneo, meanwhile, acknowledged the recommendation and "respect the work it has undertaken in the course of its investigation."
