PBA: Kentrell Barkley of Blackwater

Blackwater got an immediate boost from new import Kentrell Barkley, who made a memorable PBA debut by leading the Bossing to a convincing 131-108 win over Rain or Shine in the Season 50 Governors' Cup on Saturday.

The 29-year-old American import shone with a triple-double outing of 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists as the Bossing silenced the Elasto Painters, which was coming off a semifinals appearance in the previous conference.

"I was just being aggressive and trusting Coach Pat's game plan," Barkley said.

"I feel like I'm aggressive on the court, I give my team the best chance of winning the game. I got a little tired in the second quarter but I found other ways to impact the game."

Barkley got his offense going early, torching Rain or Shine with four three-pointers in the first quarter alone. Blackwater closed that quarter with a 36-25 lead, which ballooned to a 72-56 cushion by halftime.

Blackwater's locals took over in the third quarter with Sedrick Barefield pouring in 14 points in the period while RK Ilagan and James Una also made their presence felt as the Bossing stretched their lead to a commanding 108-81, good for a 27-point cushion.

Already hampered by multiple injuries, the Elasto Painters made one last push behind import Aaron Fuller, who scored eight straight points to trim the deficit to 19, 125-106, with 1:40 left in the fourth quarter.

But that would be the closest Rain or Shine could get as Dalph Panopio provided the finishing touches to seal the 23-point victory.

"Sabi ko naman kanina before the game, Kentrell is a great teammate. When he came here, he studied who he's gonna play for and I'm just happy na we had him and I hope that we continue doing so," Blackwater head coach Pat Aquino said.

"Just follow KB and I think we're gonna go as far as we could go with KB around."

Barkley also got plenty of help from Blackwater's local crew with Barefield posting 24 points, three rebounds, and three assists and RK Ilagan chipping in in 22 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Panopio also finished in double digits with 19 points as Una tallied 12 markers and seven rebounds off the bench.
