The local government of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, commemorated the 40th day since the passing of basketball player Rene Baterbonia on Saturday.

A Mass was held in his honor, while Baterbonia's tomb was also officially opened to the public.

"The Baterbonia Family officially opened the tomb of our AgSurnon sports icon, Rene Clert 'Bobet' Baterbonia, in remembrance of his 40th Day of Commemoration at his final resting place in Labnig, Talacogon, Agusan del Sur," Talacogon Mayor Pauline Masendo said in a Facebook post.

"Today, we honor not only his remarkable achievements in sports but also the lasting legacy, inspiration, and pride he brought to Agusan del Sur. Though he is no longer with us, his passion, dedication, and impact will continue to live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched."

Baterbonia died on June 8, along with Divine Adili, after they drowned during a team-building activity involving the Ateneo Blue Eagles in Aurora.

The Ateneo also marked the 40th day since Baterbonia's passing on Friday.
