PBA: Juami Tiongson takes blame after another failed Terrafirma comeback
Terrafirma could have easily been 4-0 by now. Instead, the Dyip are 1-3 in Group A after three straight comeback attempts fell just short to begin their campaign in the PBA Season 50 Governors' Cup.
Its latest mishap came on Saturday, when the Dyip crawled back from 22 points down against powerhouse San Miguel only to run out of steam in the endgame due to multiple defensive lapses and offensive struggles.
Before that, the Dyip also mounted similar fightback against NLEX and Converge en route to narrow 101-100 and 105-103 losses.
"Siyempre very disappointed kasi ako 'yung nag-turnover twice eh. I hold myself accountable. Akin 'yun. I don't know what to say. Ang sakit e," said Tiongson, who fueled the comeback against his former team.
"Siyempre disappointing because we could have been up 4-0 or 3-1."
Terrafirma once stared at a 22-point hole, but Tiongson led the second-half surge, firing a huge three-pointer that allowed the Dyip to pull within one late in the fourth frame, 97-98.
Tiongson, who was traded by San Miguel to Terrafirma last July, even gave Terrafirma a 104-101 cushion with another booming triple but it was also his turnovers and misses that spelled doom for the franchise.
Still, the veteran guard was still proud of how the team showed fight against the multi-titled and veteran-laced San Miguel.
"Ilan lang naman kaming beterano eh, ako, si Mav [Ahanmisi], at si Aljon [Mariano] and then the rest are young guys na. Gusto lang naman namin lumaban until the very end and at least give ourselves a chance to win," Tiongson added.
Tiongson also underscored that he did not have any personal vendetta facing his old team even after he erupted for 27 points together with six rebounds, seven assists, and one steal in the 109-104 loss.
"Actually there's no hard feelings naman eh kasi when they traded me, they were very professional. Parang may mga nagsasabi na revenge game pero bakit revenge game eh they never did anything personal to me anyway," he said.
"I always have a good relationship with them, especially the players. 'Yung bond ko with them, hindi na mawawala 'yun."
