FilOil: Mangubat, Hubilla star as JRU stuns San Beda in Game 1 of Finals

Lawrence Mangubat and Chris Hubilla took turns to lead Jose Rizal University to a 70-59 win over San Beda University in Game 1 of the 2026 FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup on Tuesday.

The two transferees who helped Mapua University capture the NCAA Season 100 title continued to fulfill their promise of turning the Heavy Bombers into a title contender, leading the way in best-of-three series opener.

Mangubat top-scored with 22 points, highlighted by a 17-point outburst in the first half that allowed JRU to take a slim 41-37 lead, together with nine rebounds, three assists, and a steal as the Heavy Bombers outplayed the reigning NCAA champion.

Hubilla then took over in the second half and finished with 19 markers, nine boards, three dimes, and two steals while Stephen Garupil chipped in nine points to help the cause.
