Scotty Pippen Jr. opens up about being the son of an NBA icon

Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. is in Manila for a series of engagements, and during a visit to the NBA Store in Mandaluyong, the second-generation player spoke about what it's like being the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen.

Asked whether there is pressure that comes with carrying his father's name, Pippen Jr. said he sees it as an advantage rather than a burden.

"I don't really see it as pressure," Pippen Jr. told reporters.

"I think it's, you know, I use my dad as a resource. I think people look at it as pressure. I just kind of use that as an advantage, and just knowing that I have someone that can help me get to where I need to be and push me."

After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, Pippen Jr. signed with the Los Angeles Lakers before spending time with the team's NBA G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. He joined the Grizzlies in 2023.

Like many other second-generation players, Pippen Jr. said he enjoys seeing more father-son duos in the NBA.

"I think it's kind of cool that we have a lot of father-son duos in the NBA. I went to high school with a couple as well, so I don't think we actually talked about it, but I think it's something that we all share and, you know, could talk about one day."
