PBA: San Miguel rolls past Titan Ultra as Bryan Sajonia suffers injury
San Miguel rolled to its third straight win—and second consecutive blowout—as it crushed Titan Ultra, 144-113, in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The game, however, was marred by multiple delays in the second half, first due to an injury and later after a player vomited on the court.
Titan Ultra's rookie Bryan Sajonia had to be stretchered off the court after a scary injury at the 8:51 mark of the third period.
The guard out of San Beda went down with a non-contact injury on his right knee while looking to complete a fastbreak with the Giant Risers trailing the Beermen, 55-74.
Sajonia’s injury came just a day after NLEX import DeQuan Jones suffered a right leg injury at the same spot, venue, and nearly the same time in the third quarter.
Sajonia's injury was also Titan Ultra's latest casualty following Mark Denver Omega, who was also stretchered out of the court after an awkward fall in their 132-128 win against Macau last August 4.
The fourth quarter saw another stoppage as John Amores threw up in front of the Titan Ultra bench, forcing venue utility personnel to clean the playing surface first. Amores later headed to the dugout but eventually returned to the bench.
Despite the delays, San Miguel stayed focused en route to the 30 plus-point victory that allowed the Beermen to improve to 7-2 in Group A while Titan Ultra slipped to 2-7.
George King, whose 16 points in the first half allowed San Miguel to build a comfortable 64-50 lead, finished with 39 markers alongside 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Don Trollano churned out 21 points and 10 rebounds while Marcio Lassiter and Rodney Brondial chipped in 15 and 13 markers each as the Beermen continued to miss the services of CJ Perez.
Tirrell Brown led Titan Ultra with an all-around outing of 34 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists while Fran Yu and Amores both chimed in with 11, but those were not enough as Titan moved on the verge of elimination.
"It's a great motivation para for me and I'm so grateful because the players responded well during my return to the team and we're playing well," San Miguel head coach Leo Austria said in a mix of English and Filipino.
"The good thing today is everybody is enjoying. And it seems to me that they are building good chemistry."
