MPBL's Abra Weavers to compete in EASL 2026-27 Season

The MPBL’s Abra Weavers are set to compete in the East Asia Super League (EASL) after the two leagues forged a partnership for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Both leagues announced the development on Wednesday.

"This is a proud moment for the MPBL. From the beginning, our vision has been to create opportunities for Filipino basketball to continue growing,” MPBL founder Manny Pacquiao said.

EASL CEO Henry Kerins, meanwhile, welcomed the MPBL and the Abra Weavers to the league.

“Abra has quickly established itself as one of the Philippines’ strongest clubs, and we’re excited to see them compete against Asia’s best. Bringing the MPBL into EASL further strengthens our presence in one of the world’s great basketball nations and represents another significant step forward as we look forward to our biggest and most competitive campaign yet.”

Among the other teams that will compete in the EASL are B.League’s Nagasaki Velca, KBL’s Goyang Sono Skygunners, Macau’s Macau Hou Chan, and P.League’s TSG Ghosthawks.

The EASL previously had the Meralco Bolts and San Miguel Beermen as its Philippine representatives.
