Mark Magsayo fires back at Andres Cortes trash talk: Ceja, Figueroa, Vargas are better

Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo fired back at Andres Cortes, who vowed to “destroy” the former WBC world featherweight champion when they meet in a lightweight clash on Sunday, September 13 (Philippine time) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“This is my opportunity to show the world what I can do. I’m going to destroy Mark Magsayo on September 12,” Cortes told Ring Magazine in a previous interview.

Fully aware that talking smack is part of the fight game, Magsayo, a veteran of 31 professional fights, does not appear fazed by his opponent’s bold claims.

“Maybe he’s just trying to boost his morale because he knows I have more experience than him. So, maybe he’s just hyping himself up,” Magsayo said in Filipino of Cortes’ comments. “That’s just how it is.”

Magasyo, however, was not about to let the undefeated American have the last word.

“I’m used to that kind of talk, but I thought to myself, Julio Ceja is better than him, Brandon Figueroa is better than him, Rey Vargas too.”

Cortes enters the contest with an undefeated 25-0 record featuring 13 knockouts, but Magsayo carries a five-fight winning streak of his own.

The Filipino powerhouse made a statement in his lightweight debut back in April, dismantling Feargal McCrory via fifth-round TKO at Zuffa Boxing 5.
