Carl Jammes “Wonderboy” Martin scored the biggest victory of his career, upsetting Mexico’s Alan David Picasso via split decision in their 10-round featherweight showdown on Sunday morning (Philippine time) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Martin preserved his undefeated record after two judges scored the bout in his favor, with Jorge Gorini and Barry Linderman handing him 95-94 and 96-93 scorecards, respectively. Guido Cavalleri was the lone dissenting judge, scoring the contest 95-94 for Picasso.

The 27-year-old southpaw from Lagawe, Ifugao finished strong to overcome a flash knockdown in the seventh round. Martin went down after his left glove touched the canvas, but he quickly got back to his feet and protested that he had simply slipped. The knockdown was nevertheless counted, although Martin showed no apparent signs of being hurt.

“Wonderboy” responded by picking up the pace, landing solid punches to the head and body in the final two rounds to make his case with the judges.

The victory improved Martin’s record to 29-0, including 21 knockouts, while earning him the WBC Silver featherweight title. The breakthrough win also puts him one step closer to securing a full world title shot.

Picasso, meanwhile, suffered only the second defeat of his professional career. His only other loss came against Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue in their undisputed super-bantamweight title fight in December 2025.

It remains to be seen whether Martin will continue campaigning at featherweight. He previously told GMA News Online, however, that he intends to return to super bantamweight to pursue a showdown with Inoue.
