Marquez: 'My people want to see me fight Manny again'
Three times were not the charm. Juan Manuel Marquez is simply waiting for the go-signal from Top Rank promoter Bob Arum to get a fourth fight against Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao underway, Marquez told RingTV.com in an interview. Should things push through, Marquez would fight Pacquiao for the fourth time on November 10 in Mexico, on the date originally slated for the Pacman rematch against Timothy Bradley. "There's been discussion about me fighting in July, but maybe I'll fight with Manny on November 10. Beltran [Fernando Beltran, Marquez's promoter] said that, but I need to wait for Bob Arum," said Marquez. "If Bob Arum says that I'll fight with Manny on November 10, that would be great for me....Bob Arum [also] said Manny might want to fight me in Mexico. That would be a great thing for me [as well]. "My people want to see me fight Manny again, and I'd feel very happy to do it again." Marquez has been on the losing end of his trilogy of fights with Pacquiao. They fought to a draw back in 2004, a Pacquiao split-decision in 2006, and then the Sarangani congressman eked out a controversial majority decision back in 2011. Since their November 2011 bout though, Bradley claimed Pacquiao's WBO welterweight title in a controversial split-decision earlier in the month, triggering Pacquiao's rematch clause with him. However, the duo's promoter Arum has been reluctant to definitively say that the two would face-off again, due to perceived low demand in such a match-up. On the other hand, Marquez defeated Sergei Fedchenko last April via unanimous decision, to become the Interim WBO Light Welterweight champion. For Marquez's part, he believes that Pacquiao beat Bradley eight rounds to four, saying, "I gave Bradley maybe round two, maybe the sixth round and the last two rounds - round 11 and round 12." Bradley won 115-113, 115-113, 113-115. Pacquiao advisor Michael Koncz would not make any definitive statements however, saying that Team Pacman is still deciding between Bradley, Marquez, and Miguel Cotto. "Manny could fight Cotto again at a different weight. We could fight Marquez again. We've got other options....We're going on vacation, and then we're going to decide what we're going to do." - AMD, GMA News
