Filipino chosen as boxing ref and judge in London Olympics

Pangasinan native Dante De Castro has been chosen as a boxing referee and judge for the upcoming 2012 London Olympics, according to a report by CJ Turida from GMA News Dagupan. After being observed for a year by the International Boxing Association (AIBA), De Castro recently got a letter of confirmation from the organization, which means that he will be London-bound later in July. "Tinignan talaga nila ang performance ng mga referee all over the world. 35 lang kami sa buong mundo ang napili," De Castro said. The 50-year-old is a member of the Amateur Boxing Referees/Judges and Technical Officials Association of the Philippines, which put him on the AIBA's radar when they were looking for Olympics officials. - AMD, GMA News
