Ana 'The Hurricane' Julaton looks for her next challenge after KO-ing Abigail Ramos
Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton, the former women’s super bantamweight champion of the world bucked a last minute opponent switch to keep her hopes of getting another title shot alive, making short work of her replacement opponent Abigail Ramos (3-4-0, 2 KOs) in her third fight in Yucatan, Mexico, Saturday, PHL time. Julaton was supposed to face a far tougher opponent in Magali Rodriguez (7-4-1, 4 KOs), but a few days before the fight, Team Julaton decided to find a replacement for their first choice of opponent as the Rodriguez camp failed to communicate with them. Julaton came into Yucatan looking for a big win to bolster her chances of another title shot and that is exactly what she got. In her first 11 victories, Julaton had only scored a single knockout, which came in the first round of her fight against Salina Jordan, way back in 2008. Ramos, her replacement opponent, actually had a much better knockout ratio than her, KO-ing two of her three victims. But what was expected to be a tough battle ended with Julaton scoring the most decisive victory of her career - she knocked out Ramos 19 seconds into the first round. The beginning of the end started for Ramos when Julaton connected with a stiff left hook followed by a right straight. Ramos was visibly shaken after that instance and immediately began turning away from Julaton. The Hurricane went for the kill with about 15 unanswered punches highlighted by four consecutive left hooks. The referee had no choice but to rescue the defenseless Ramos. After her big victory, Julaton is out to challenge the best fighters in the super bantamweight division. One option for the 32 year old Julaton is to have a rematch against Yesica Patricia Marcos (19-0-1, 6 KOs) of Argentina, the fighter who took away Julaton’s WBO super bantamweight title. Another option will be to fight the winner of a mouth-watering battle between reigning WBA super bantamweight champion Jackie Nava and Lisa Brown, a fighter who holds a victory over Julaton. Whatever the next challenge will be, Julaton is out to prove that she still is one of the best female fighters in the planet. - AMD, GMA News
