Lost: Denver Cuello’s WBC Silver belt
By CARLO PAMINTUAN, GMA News
Denver Cuello’s World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight title belt is missing. According to Cuello, he was coming from an interview and was on his way home when he left his bag containing the belt and a few items of clothing in the cab he took. “Sana po maibalik sa akin yung belt ko kasi pinaghirapan ko po talaga ‘yun,” Cuello pleaded. The 25-year-old Cuello is regarded by most boxing pundits as an uncrowned world champion. He has been in line for a world title shot for a long time now but the WBC saw it fit to give other fighters the chance to compete for the world title first. Cuello won the lesser “Silver” version of the WBC title back in October of 2011 when he defeated Carlos Perez in Mexico, knocking him out in the very first round. He then fought three more times after that, winning two by stoppage and one by decision. His last win came via unanimous decision over Mexican Ivan Meneses. Cuello injured his shoulder in the third round of that fight but he fought through the pain and was rewarded with the victory. Cuello’s promoter, manager, and trainer Aljoe Jaro also pleaded to the person with Cuello’s belt to return it immediately. “Buhay po ni Denver ‘yun. Sana po kung sino man ang nakakuha, isauli na lang po,” Jaro said. “Dugo at pawis po ang puhunan ni Denver bago niya makuha yung titulong ‘yan.” Cuello who has a stellar record of 32 wins, four losses, and six draws with 21 knockouts is in line for a world title shot. He will fight the new WBC minimumweight champion, who will be crowned on November 24, in a fight between Mexico’s Javier Martinez Resendiz and China’s Xiong Zhao Zhong. - AMD, GMA News
