Floyd Mayweather Jr., reigning WBC welterweight (147 lb.) titlist, tweeted out Thursday that his next opponent will be Canelo Alvarez, in a fight slated for September 14 (Sept. 15, PHL time) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Mayweather also holds the WBA super champion belt in the super welterweight division after he defeated Miguel Cotto last year.

Mayweather, who is coming off a unanimous decision victory against Robert Guerrero last May 4, described the match-up as "giving the fans what they want."

The American Mayweather is undefeated in 44 fights with 26 coming via KO.

Alvarez on the other hand is the reigning WBC, WBA, and Ring Magazine super welterweight champ. The Mexican fighter defeated Austin Trout via unanimous decision last April 20, to take his card up to 42-0-1, with 31 KO wins.

The two will be fighting at the super welterweight division but instead of fighting at the limit of 154 pounds, Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports reported that the two will fight at a catchweight of 152 pounds. - AMD/CLP, GMA News
