Floyd Mayweather clarified in an interview with Ben Thompson of Fighthype.com that his opponent for May would either be Amir Khan or Marcos Maidana.

“I am my own boss, but I still communicate with my team…and my team does have say-so. My team has to have input. Any real boss has a team, but I always do have the last say-so,” said Mayweather.

“If the Amir Khan fight presents itself, then you know what? It presents itself. Once again, Amir Khan has a good following, so if it makes business sense, then it makes money. No different from the Ricky Hatton fight; it made sense. Even like the [Marcos] Maidana fight; that fight makes sense,” he added. “A lot of people believe in Maidana because of the Adrien Broner fight. They think since Adrien Broner has a style similar to mine, they think Maidana can crack the MayVinci Code.”

Mayweather has said time and again that he doesn’t want to fight Filipino ring icon MannyPacquiao because the Sarangani congressman lost two of his last three fights and hasn’t performed well in his recent pay-per-views. However, both Khan and Maidana both lack sterling records and neither have proven they can sell pay-per-views.

Khan has lost two of his last four fights, dropping a decision loss to Lamont Peterson and getting knocked out by Danny Garcia. He did bounce back though with victories over Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz. Maidana on the other hand has lost the biggest fights of his career against Andriy Kotelnik, Khan, and Devon Alexander. The win over Broner is the only big feather on his cap.

Still, Mayweather feels the two are better opponents compared to Pacquiao.

“Pacquiao had his opportunity. He had his chance. When he had his opportunity and he had his chance, I guess he was tooting his own horn and he felt like he was on the same level as me,” Mayweather said. “It's obvious he felt like he was on the same level as me status-wise because he wouldn't have asked for 50/50. So now, two losses later and he's got a problem...the IRS.

“He doesn't need to be focused on Floyd Mayweather. He needs to be focused on that tax business. I don't knock him for doing it, but all the cards are in my hand,” the undefeated fighter continued. “I don't have nothing else to prove to nobody else. I can retire; he can't.”

Even though Pacquiao has expressed little to no interest in making a fight with Mayweather because the American fighter does not want to deal with Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum, Mayweather wants to portray the eight-division champion as desperate for that match-up

“First he didn't need me; now he needs me. He's willing to do anything now after his career done took a major setback. First he wanted 50/50; now he's like, 'Floyd, give me anything. Throw an old, desperate dog a bone.'"

While Mayweather is still mum on whether it will be Khan or Maidana, Pacquiao’s camp is already expected to announce his next opponent in the coming days with Timothy Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov as the only two options. - AMD, GMA News
