Three more Filipino boxers are assured of a medal in the Asian Games after hurdling their respective opponents on Tuesday in Incheon, South Korea.

Mario Fernandez (bantamweight), Mark Anthony Barriga (light flyweight), and Willie Lopez (middleweight) joined lightweight Charly Suarez in the semifinals of the competition, making sure that they will each get at least a bronze.

Fernandez opened the day for the Philippines on a victorious note, defeating Shiva Thapa of Thailand in a unanimous decision. Barriga, who represented the country in the 2012 London Olympics, followed that up with a split decision win against Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan.

Lopez capped the day with a sensational technical knockout victory in the first round against Shinebayar Narmandakh of Mongolia.

The foursome will embark on their respective semifinals campaigns on Thursday. Suarez will take on Obada Alkasbeh of Jordan, Barriga will battle Shin Jonghun of South Korea, Fernandez will face Zhang Jiawei of China, while Lopez will test his mettle against Odai Alhindawi of Jordan. — JST, GMA News
