With 10 days left before squaring off with American boxer Chris Algieri, Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao has yet to reach the catch weight of 144 pounds for the welterweight fight.
Pacquiao currently weighs 140 pounds, four pounds short of his target, according to a report on 24 Oras.
In order to hit the scales properly, the boxing icon has been eating a whole service platter of rice every meal, along with his favorite dishes balbacua, native chicken adobo, danggit, and pakbet.
Pacman has also started to lessen his training to help in putting on the necessary weight, but otherwise he said he is good to go for the November 23 fight in Macau.
"Ready na tayo," Pacquiao said. "Maintain na lang 'yung sharpness and then 'yung killer instinct. 'Yung focus natin sa fight."
The boxer's coaches believe that he will perform better with a lighter weight, taking advantage of his quickness to counter Algieri's size upperhand.
"I like that weight for him," said Pacman's coach Freddie Roach. "I think he has a lot more power that way."
Team Pacquiao will head to Macau on Monday to begin last-minute preparations for the fight. — Marisse Panaligan/JST, GMA News
