The offer for Floyd Mayweather to fight Manny Pacquiao in the ring just got richer.
A consortium from United Arab Emirates interested in the bout initially put in $110 million, but later confirmed to boxingscene.com that they increased the offer to $120 million.
According to Akbar Muhammad, one of the principal investors, the offer was already submitted to Mayweather Promotions.
"Mr. Mayweather has said he’ll fight Pacquiao in the spring, so the only matter that needs to be resolved is the money," Muhammad said.
“I defy any other offer to come anywhere close to what Mr. Mayweather and the ‘Money Team’ will net by fighting in Abu Dhabi," Muhammad added.
"It simply can’t and won’t be done. Such is the nature of today’s international financial landscape. It’s a brave new world, and sports is embracing it."
Muhammad also said that money is not the only factor that makes the fight a historic event, but Abu Dhabi itself as a venue.
"There’s more to boxing than just Las Vegas. For instance, the media tour for this event will not be just in the United States; it’ll be a worldwide tour, one which will hit major capitals and countries around the globe," he said. —Marisse Panaligan/JST, GMA News
