While the whole world has been waiting for word on negotiations for a Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather megafight, the boxing scene was rocked recently by rumors that the brash American fighter's camp has instead offered $40 million to Miguel Cotto for a rematch.

The rumor mill churned out that Al Haymon, Mayweather's adviser, made the offer for the Puerto Rican superstar. Mayweather defeated Cotto by unanimous decision in 2012.

But Cotto adviser Gaby Penagaricano denied rumors that the Mayweather camp had reached out to the WBC middleweight champion.

"That is just completely false," Penagaricano told boxingscene.com.

Cotto had been expected to take on Mexican star Saul Alvarez next, but no deal has been signed yet.
