Southpaw Pacquiao will spell doom for Mayweather, says Roach
Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach believes experience is even for Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather when they battle on May 2 (May 3 PHL time) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao, 36, has been a prizefighter for 20 years while the 38-year-old Mayweather has been a professional for 19 years. They have a combined total of 111 professional fights.
"Both fighters have great experience, so I don’t believe that will be a factor in the fight. The biggest thing is that each fighter comes in with a different style. Floyd is a counter-puncher but Manny must be the one to enforce the fight," said Roach.
"I believe that Manny being a southpaw will be a factor in this fight. Manny showed me tape of Floyd fighting a southpaw and told me that that is exactly what we are going to do in this fight."
Both pound-for-pound superstars are renowned for their hand speed but Roach says that Pacquiao will prove to be the better fighter despite Mayweather's height advantage.
"Mayweather is a good counter-puncher, but Manny has faster hands and his combinations are better than Floyd’s," told Roach.
"Floyd may be a bigger guy, but we will still win the fight." -- JST, GMA News
