Hang up your boxing gloves and spend time with your family.

This was President Benigno Aquino III’s advice to Manny Pacquiao, who will face off with undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather on Sunday.

In an interview with reporters on Tuesday, Aquino reminded the Filipino ring icon and Sarangani representative that “continued fighting in the ring does not promote good health.”

“He has done so much already for our country. Tayo naman siguro, dapat may malasakit din tayo sa kanya, imbes na buyuin mo nang buyuin. ’Di ba, maganda na ‘yung ikaw ang umayaw?” Aquino said.

The President added that Pacquiao should avoid “unnecessary risks” and should just think about his young children.

“May naipon ka na. May naitabi ka na. Ma-enjoy mo naman sana ‘yon. Ma-enjoy ng pamilya mo ‘yon. Ma-enjoy niyo ang isa’t isa,” he said.

Pacquiao is set to battle Mayweather this Sunday at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Aquino also expressed confidence that Pacquiao’s fight with Mayweather will be the Filipino boxer’s “crowning glory.”

“I’m very confident that he will do our countrymen proud as he has always done,” the President said. -- JST, GMA News
