(Updated 10:17 a.m.) Boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday welcomed the possibility of a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

In a press conference aired live on GMA's Unang Hirit, Pacquiao however said he would need four to six months of rest before a rematch can be scheduled.

"Maganda 'yan," he said. "Gusto ko 'yan, may rematch kami. Pagalingin ko muna 'to (shoulder injury). I-fix ko muna."

He added: "Happy naman ako at open siya sa rematch. I-fix ko muna itong sa balikat ko. Sabi ng doktor ko, totally 100 percent magaling, basta kailangan ng pahinga. Basta four to six months."

Pacquiao is scheduled to undergo surgery this week to address a tear in his right rotator cuff.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said Pacquiao suffered a shoulder injury in training camp about two and a half weeks earlier and that it hampered him in the fight.

During the interview, however, Pacquiao told reporters: "Sa kondisyon (before the fight), wala akong problema kasi nawala 'yung sakit... Kailangan lang 'yung shot nu'ng gabing 'yon in case... Kasi magkakapalitan, magkakabakbakan. Sa sparring nga sumakit, sa bakbakan pa? In case..."

He added: "Actually nawala naman 'yung injury ko. Sumakit lang nung nag-throw ako ng combination na malalakas nung fourth round. Actually, before the fight, nakita niyo naman nagmi-mitts kami ni Freddie Roach so I'm okay."

He admitted, however, that it began to hurt during the fight after throwing some combinations. He added: "Kasi natamaan niya... Natamaan niya kasi 'yung balikat ko."

Earlier, Mayweather, who remains undefeated after a unanimous decision over their mega-fight on Saturday (Sunday PHL time), said he was not keen on trading blows again with the Filipino ring icon.

There was no rematch clause in the Pacquiao-Mayweather contract for the fight that took five years of on-off negotiations to happen.

"Give other fighters [a] chance," he said, after winning the WBC, WBO, and WBA welterweight belts in his unification bout with Pacquiao. "It's time other fighters fight for the belts."

However, after Pacquiao's injury was revealed to the public, Mayweather told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith in a text message that he "will fight him (Pacquiao) in a year after his surgery." —with Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/KG, GMA News
