The Philippines' longest reigning world champion Donnie Nietes dominated Francisco Rodriguez Jr. of Mexico on Saturday at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu.
The two-time world minimumweight champion Rodriguez was visually determined to snatch the title, putting constant pressure throughout the fight only to be neutralized by Nietes' defense and counterpunching.
In the end, the 33-year-old Nietes showed once again that he's levels above everybody at 108 pounds, defeating Rodriguez by unanimous decision after twelve rounds. The scorecards were 119-109, 118-110 and 115-113.
The win marked Nietes' seventh successful defense of his WBO world light flyweight title, improving his record to 36-1-4 with 21 knockouts while Rodriguez fell to 17-3-1 with 11 knockouts. - RAF, GMA News
