Filipino fighter Carlo Magali feels that his Australian opponent's life could have been saved if there had been immediate medical attention provided following their bout this past Friday in Ingleburn, Australia.
"There was lack of medics. There was no oxygen, no ambulance," Magali told GMA News Online.
"It took time, maybe an hour before they managed to bring him (Browne) to the hospital. I was there and I felt really bad for him."
Australian David Browne Jr. suffered a knockout defeat at the hands of Magali in the 12th round. He regained his senses but only to fall into comatose shortly afterwards.
Browne's family decided to remove his life support on Tuesday. He died at a young age of 28.
"I never thought this would happen. I prayed for him to live," said Magali.
"I offer my condolences to his family. I didn't mean for this to happen. I'm sorry. I only did my job and unfortunately this sometimes happens in boxing."
Earlier this year, Australian boxer Braydon Smith also lost his life after going 10 hard rounds against another Filipino John Vincent Moralde. —JST, GMA News
