Rigondeaux stays unbeaten with UD win over Pinoy boxer Drian Francisco
Guillermo Rigondeaux has successfully maintained his unbeaten record by defeating Batangas native Drian Francisco by unanimous decision on the undercard of Miguel Cotto vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Saturday (Sunday PHL time), at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Rigondeaux made his presence felt early in the fight, landing his patented left straights down the pipe in the opening round. As the fight went on, Rigondeaux merely settled on scoring points, refusing to engage to draw loud boos from the crowd.
Francisco tried to press the action, but the reluctant Rigondeaux boxed in circles throwing jabs, left hands and occasional combinations to win rounds.
Rigondeaux won on all three judges' scorecards after ten rounds of a highly forgettable fight. The scores were 100-90, 100-90 and 97-93.
The win improved Rigondeaux's record to 16-0 with 10 knockouts while Francisco fell to 28-4-1 with 22 knockouts. - RAF, GMA News
