Pinoy fighter Vic Saludar gets crack at world title in Japan

Another Filipino pug is slated to have a rare chance of bidding for a world title when hard-hitting prospect Vic Saludar squares off against WBO world minimumweight champion Kosei Tanaka on December 31 at Aichi Prefectural Gym in Nagoya, Japan.

Saludar, 25, was a standout in his amateur days and holds an impressive professional record of 11-1 with 9 knockouts. He is on a nine-fight winning streak coming off a first round technical knockout win over Rizky Pratama that saw him earn the vacant WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title.

The hometown favorite Tanaka, meanwhile, holds an unblemished record of 5-0 with 2 knockouts. He won his world title in his last bout when he defeated Mexican Julian Yedras by unanimous decision. —JST, GMA News
