Nonito hampered by foot injury in win vs Juarez - Donaire Sr
Nonito Donaire Jr. is once again a boxing world champion after winning by unanimous decision against Cesar Juarez to capture the vacant WBO world super bantamweight title on Friday (Saturday, PHL time) at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Donaire, 33, figured in a fight of the year candidate against Juarez, but as it turns out, Donaire's boxing and movement was merely toned down after hurting his left foot during the fight according to his father and trainer, Nonito Donaire Sr.
"The game plan was to outbox, outpower and outsmart Juarez," Nonito Sr. tells GMA News Online.
"Nonito was moving really good. Unfortunately, he hurt his left foot when he accidentally stepped at the referee in round 4, so I think so he kind of slowed down."
Nevertheless, Nonito Sr. is proud of his son's performance and also took his hat off to Juarez for giving a them a tough matchup.
"Overall, Nonito did really well in this fight," says Nonito Sr. "I also like to give a lot of credit to Juarez, he took a lot of hard punches but he kept coming forward." - JM Siasat/RAF, GMA News
