Jerwin Ancajas vies for world title in Cavite

World-rated prospect Jerwin Ancajas will have his first crack at an international title when he battles IBF world super flyweight champion McJoe Arroyo on April 16 at Strike Coliseum in Bacoor, Cavite.

The 24-year-old Ancajas, who holds a record of 24-1-1 with 16 knockouts, has long been one of the most promising boxer from the Philippines and is coming off an eleven-fight win streak all by stoppages.

Arroyo, meanwhile, is an unbeaten pugilist from Puerto Rico with a record of 17-0 with eight knockouts. He defeated Filipino fighter Arthur Villanueva in his last and is flying to Manila to defend his title for the first time.

"This is a 50-50 fight because Arroyo is a real good opponent," Ancajas' manager and trainer Joven Jimenez told GMA News Online.

"But we're both ready and confident to win the contest. Ancajas is in top shape going to the fight."

The world title showdown is promoted by Manny Pacquiao's MP Promotions. Admission is free. — APG, GMA News
