WBA interim world light flyweight champion Randy Petalcorin will have a chance to add another belt to his collection when he battles Omari Kimweri for the vacant WBA silver flyweight title on April 15 at Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington, Australia.

The fight will mark Petalcorin's first bout in twelve months, having fought just once last year in April in Beijing, China.

Despite going up a weight class for the fight, the General Santos native is confident of his chances ahead of the title showdown.

"I'm ready and I'm not scared of my opponent," tells Petalcorin. "Two years ago I've sparred Kimweri in Melbourne and I had no problem beating him up."

With Manny Pacquiao nearing his retirement, Petalcorin's manager JC Manangquil feels that it's his fighter's time to become the next Filipino boxing headliner.

"Manny Pacquiao is on his way out and Nonito Donaire is getting old. Randy will be the next legitimate star of Philippine boxing," said Manangquil.

"Randy is training hard for this fight as he hopes to win another belt for the country. We will also keep him very active this year." —JST, GMA News
