After a tense day at work at the Senate on Monday, wherein he moved to declare the chairmanship of a committee vacant, boxing champ and incumbent senator Manny Pacquiao headed straight to the gym to train for his upcoming fight, a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday said.

Pacquiao is preparing for his bout with WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas in November.

The boxing champ wasted no time on Monday and headed straight to the boxing ring after the Senate session, GMA News' Athena Imperial said.

Pacquiao trained hard for two hours and showed off his strong jabs.

"Meron pa tayong anim na linggo para sa preparasyon sa darating na laban so enough naman 'yung time para makuha natin 'yung 100 percent condition," Pacquiao said.

The boxer's conditioning coach Justine Fortune was focused on training Pacquiao.

"Plyometrics have proven themselves to work time and time again for every sport... We'll just maintain his strength, ... maintain his speed," he said.

Fortune added that there was no change in Pacquiao's speed.

He admitted though that they had to adjust their training schedule so Pacquiao can perform his duties as a senator.

Pacquiao jogs in the mornings, then heads to the boxing gym right after the Senate session in the afternoons.

On Monday, Pacquiao moved to declare the chairmanship and memberships of the Senate committee on justice and human rights vacant after Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano delivered a privilege speech accusing Sen. Leila De Lima as being biased against President Rodrigo Duterte.

De Lima is the chairperson of the Senate panel, which is holding a probe on alleged extrajudicial killings and summary executions amid the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.

The Senate put Pacquiao's motion to a vote, and subsequently declared De Lima's committee vacant—KG, GMA News
