Pacquiao to have Senate seal on mouthguard in Vargas bout
When Manny Pacquiao collides with world boxing champion Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas on Sunday, the country's Pambansang Kamao will wear a mouthguard fit not just for an eight-division world champion, but also for a senator of the republic.
A report from Chino Trinidad on GMA News TV's Balitanghali showed Pacquiao wearing the mouthguard to ensure its maximum protection during his bout with Vargas, the reigning WBO welterweight champion.
Pacquiao's dentist, Dr. Ed Dela Vega, presented the mouthguard—printed with the official seal of the Senate at the center—before Team Pacquiao traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada.
The report said the California-based dentist supplies the mouthguard of Pacquiao for more than 10 years.
Dela Vega said the red, white, and blue-colored mouthguard suited Pacquiao, who is marking his first fight as a senator.
"It tells us about the kind of [man] he is. A man who is now a senator and a world champion boxer," Dela Vega said. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/NB, GMA News
