Pinoy boxer Ernesto Saulong loses world title bid in Japan

Filipino boxer Ernesto Saulong suffered a unanimous decision defeat in his world title bid against IBF World Super Bantamweight champion Ryosuke Iwasa on Thursday night (PHL time) at Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.

Saulong, 28, was dominated over the course of his twelve-round bout as he offered no answer to the champion's height and reach advantage.

The Mindoro Occidental native mostly tried to cut the distance only to get caught nearly each and every time he comes in.

All three judges awarded the fight to Iwasa. The scorecards were 120-108, 119-109 and 118-110.

Saulong dropped to 21-3-1 (8KOs) while Iwasa improved his record to 25-2 (16KOs). — BAP, GMA News
