Pacquiao-Mathysse fight to push through on July 15 —spokesperson

The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Argentina's Lucas Matthysse for the world welterweight title is still on for July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The boxer-lawmaker's spokesperson, Aquiles Zonio, gave the assurance on Saturday after it was reported that the fight was at risk of being called off due to financial issues.

"The July 15 fight is on," Zonio told GMA News Online in a text message.

A few days earlier, ESPN.com reported that Pacquiao’s MP Promotions had missed several deadlines to finance various aspects of the fight, and it was thus at risk of being called off.

Top Rank chairman Bob Arum had also told ESPN that the event was "no longer feasible because so many deadlines were missed."

On Saturday, Zonio brushed off the doubts with a positive update: "Everything is going well." —DVM/KG, GMA News
