Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao should retire from his boxing career after winning the World Boxing Association welterweight belt on Sunday, according to a boxing analyst on Monday.

"Ako if I have it my way, matagal na dapat nag-retire si Manny.  Like they always say, it's best to retire when you're at the top. Now makikita natin sa laban na 'to na Manny has a lot left in the tank. He's even fighting at welterweight. Malalaking kalaban na, he could even go down in weight and still be competitive," JM Siasat said in an interview on GMA News TV's News To Go.

"I think for me, it's best for him to retire. Again you're doing good but you're past your best and at the same time it's better to retire this way. I think it would be a fairy tale ending na nakakuha pa siya ng title before siya mag-retire and he got a knockout win, so why not?" Siasat added.

Pacquiao scored a seventh round technical knockout victory over Argentine boxer Lucas Matthysse, his 60th win.

Pacquiao dedicated his triumph to all Filipinos and to President Rodrigo Duterte, who was able to watch the fight before a scheduled meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

The President has said that he wants to see Pacquiao rest and enjoy his life.

In an earlier interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Pacquiao said he is good for two to three more fights before he entertains the thought of retiring from boxing. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
