Boxer Carlo Paalam has added a bronze medal to the Philippine tally in the Asian Games.

The light flyweight fighter lost a heartbreaker against India's Amit, 3-2, in their semifinal matchup on Friday, relegating Paalam to the bronze.

With the result, the Philippines now has four gold medals, one silver, and 14 bronzes from the quadrennial meet.

Paalam, the youngest in the Philippine team at 20, scored a split decision victory over Termirtas Zhussupov of Kazakhstan, a former Asian champion, in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. He previously defeated Tu Powei of Chinese Taipei in the round-of-16.

Fellow boxer Rogen Ladon made it to the gold medal match earlier after dominating Thailand’s Yuttapong Tongdee, 5-0, in the men’s flyweight semifinal. Ladon will battle Uzbekistan’s Jasurbek Latipov, who eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s Azat Uzenaliev, 4-1, in the other semifinal at the Jakarta International Expo Boxing Hall.

Middlewight Eumir Felix Marcial will take on Uzbekistan’s Israel Madrimov later on Friday. —JST, GMA News
