Donnie Nietes and Aston Palicte battle to a draw in world title fight
By JM SIASAT
Pinoy boxer Donnie Nietes' journey to become a four-division world champion came to a halt following a draw against fellow Filipino Aston Palicte Saturday night (Sunday morning PHL time) at Forum in Inglewood, California.
Nietes, 36, boxed and moved as he timed and countered his much bigger foe throughout the night.
Palicte, on the other hand, had thrown punches in bunches but landed fewer clean shots and was unable to utilize his height and reach advantage.
The WBO world super flyweight title remained vacant after twelve rounds as the judges scored the fight 116-112 for Palicte, 118-110 for Nietes and 114-114, making the contest a split draw. —KG, GMA News
