Juan Miguel Elorde gets crack at super bantamweight world title
Juan Miguel Elorde will get his first crack at a world title when he takes on the hard-hitting WBO world super bantamweight champion Emanuel Navarrete on September 14 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Elorde, grandson of the late Hall of Famer Gabriel "Flash" Elorde, is currently ranked number two in the world by the world boxing organization. He's on an eighteen-fight winning streak since he suffered his first defeat at the hands of Jerry Guevara in 2011.
"We received an unexpected call," said Elorde, who holds a record of 28-1 with 15 knockouts.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I hope to take the world title back home with me to the Philippines."
Navarrete, on the other hand, is on a 23-fight win streak with an impressive record of 28-1 with 24 knockouts.
He successfully defended his title with a third-round knockout over Francisco De Vaca early this month and is looking to make a third successful defense of his strap against Elorde. —LDF, GMA News
