Oscar de la Hoya confirms ending retirement for a comeback

Six-division champion Oscar de la Hoya is dead serious about ending his retirement to make a comeback.

The 47-year-old has recently teased a ring return after seeing his fellow legend Mike Tyson get back to action at 54 years old.

But unlike the bout between Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. which happens to be an exhibition, De la Hoya says that he is planning to go back to the pro arena.

“The rumors are true, and I’m going to start sparring in the next few weeks,” De la Hoya told ESPN.

“It’s a real fight. I miss being in the ring, I love boxing. Boxing is what gave me everything I have today, and I just miss it.”

De la Hoya last saw action against Manny Pacquiao in 2008 where he suffered an eight-round technical knockout.

Twelve years after that fateful night, De la Hoya says he feels better than ever as he looks to make an official announcement in the coming weeks.

“It’s been a long time, yes, but actually my jab feels faster than ever,” he quipped.

“I have to make sure that my conditioning is perfect, my health is good. And that’s going to take place in the next few weeks. So we’ll see.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
