Pinoy boxer Giemel Magramo gets world title shot in Japan on November 6
Filipino boxer Giemel Magramo will get his first crack at a world title when he takes on the unbeaten Japanese Junto Nakatani on November 6 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
Magramo, the number one rated flyweight by the WBO, was originally scheduled to face the number three rated Nakatani in April for the vacant WBO world flyweight title. The title fight, however, faced several postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After months of waiting, the fight is now a go as Japan had finally eased up on its border restrictions.
The 26-year-old Magramo last saw action in September 2019 against fellow Pinoy Richard Claveras, where he won via third-round technical knockout.
Nakatani, meanwhile, last fought in October 2019 against Filipino former world champion Milan Melindo, where he emerged victorious via technical knockout in round six.
Team Magramo took their swab test on Wednesday morning. If the results come back negative, the team will fly to Japan on Thursday, October 22. —MGP, GMA News
