Giemel Magramo bows to Junto Nakatani in boxing world title fight in Japan
Pinoy boxer Giemel Magramo fell short in his first world title bid following an eight-round stoppage loss at the hands of Junto Nakatani this Friday night at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
Nakatani dictated how the pace is going to be by keeping Magramo at bay with his jabs and footwork in the opening round. He wobbled the Filipino with a hard left hand just two minutes into the fight then followed up with punches to the head and body.
Magramo momentarily found success getting on the inside in round two as he attacked the head and body of his lanky opponent. Nakatani was however quick to adjust as he used his back step to throw hooks and uppercuts that found its mark on Magramo.
Magramo’s best round came in round three as he pressured his foe on the inside landing shots to the head and body. Nakatani started to find his distance again in round 4 as he peppered Magramo on top and mid-section with hooks and uppercuts.
Both fighters traded leather in the center of the ring in round 5 and 6 landing their own shots respectively.
The end came in round 8 after a clubbing left hand had Magramo hurt to which the Japanese followed up with a barrage of punches that sent him crashing to the canvas. Magramo was able to beat the count but the referee opted to halt the contest.
The win improved Nakatani’s perfect record to 21-0 with 16 knockouts as he bagged the vacant WBO world flyweight title. Magramo, on the other hand, suffered the second defeat of his career as he fell to 24-2 with 20 knockouts. – RC, GMA News
