Newly crowned WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan Garcia proved that he is more than just a social media star following his knockout victory over Luke Campbell at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

The fast-rising Garcia was on the offensive all night but was made to eat an overhand left from Campbell that dropped him for the first time in his career in round two. He got up, stayed composed, before finally getting a stoppage in round 7.

And while Garcia showed great resilience in his title-winning victory, he admitted after the fight that he got hurt from the massive left he took from Campbell.

“I've never been dropped in my life. I think I got a little too excited over the moment. I was in a control but I wanted to dog him like I felt I could crack but he cracked me. There was that so I had to adjust,” Garcia told DAZN.

“I knew I could beat him I just have to get right back up and show everybody what a warrior really is like. I was a little dizzy, I ain't going to lie. But I was like it was not that bad, I mean, what's the worse the guy can do try to come at me I'll just block. I wasn't really too worried.”

Garcia, who now has an unblemished record to 21-0 with 18 knockouts, also called out the WBA world super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis and WBC world lightweight champion Devin Haney shortly after the bout. — BM, GMA News
