Golden Boy shuts down Pacquiao vs. Garcia: ‘It’s not happening’

WBC lightweight interim champion Ryan Garcia is not headed to the ring to face eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao, according to the former’s handler Golden Boy Promotions.

In an interview with ESPN, Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez shut down Garcia’s dream fight—stating there’s nothing to even talk about.

“There's nothing to talk about there. They contacted us, but it turns out there's nothing to talk about. That fight isn't going to happen,” said Gomez.

Talk of a potential showdown between the two erupted last week when Garcia posted a fight poster on social media touting the showdown.

Pacquiao, 42,  was hoping to duke it out with former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor until it was put on hold after the Irish suffered a stoppage loss at UFC 257 last January 23.

The Filipino boxing icon last saw action in July 2019 when defeated Keith Thurman via split decision to claim the WBA world welterweight title—of which he was recently stripped due to his inactivity. — BM, GMA News
