Ancajas drops, decisions Rodriguez for 9th successful defense of his IBF world title
Reigning IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas made another successful defense of his title following a unanimous decision nod over Mexico's Jonathan Javier Rodriguez this Sunday at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, USA.
Coming off a sixteen-month layoff, the Panabo City native took control of the early rounds with his pinpoint accuracy and counter-punches that found their mark. There were sequences where both fighters traded bombs in the center of the ring, landing big shots at each other.
A series of punches to the head and body from Ancajas in round 8 allowed him to score a vital knockdown. Rodriguez got up and fought on as he poured everything he has in the last three rounds of the fight.
All three judges saw the fight for Ancajas after twelve rounds of action, the scorecards were 117-110, 116-111, and 115-112. It was Ancajas’ ninth defense of the strap improving his record to 33-1-2 with 22 knockouts while Rodriguez dropped to 22-2 with 16 knockouts. — LA, GMA News
